How to track clinical trial status changes and results (ClinicalTrials.gov, PubMed, FDA)
ClinicalTrials.gov holds more than 500,000 studies, and sponsors update them constantly. Spotting a trial that just stopped recruiting, slipped its completion date or posted results means re-checking records by hand. This guide sets up an automatic watchlist.
Steps
- Open Clinical Trial & Cure Tracker on Apify.
- Enter conditions, drugs or sponsors, for example sponsor "Eli Lilly" and condition "obesity". Optionally filter by phase, status or sponsor type.
- Set Mode to "Only new trials and changes since my last run" and give the watchlist a name.
- Run it once to set a baseline, then schedule it weekly in Apify.
- Each later run returns only new or changed trials, with a changes list and a plain-English summary.
Example input
{
"sponsors": [
"Eli Lilly",
"Novo Nordisk"
],
"conditions": [
"obesity"
],
"sponsorClass": "INDUSTRY",
"mode": "changesSinceLastRun",
"stateKey": "obesity-competitors",
"maxItems": 500
}
Paste this into the Actor's JSON input on Apify, or pass it to the API with the apify-client library.
Tips
- Unchanged trials are free in change mode, so large watchlists stay cheap.
- Turn on the PubMed add-on to see papers that cite each trial.
- Use the FDA add-on to separate approved drugs being tested in new uses from investigational ones.
