How to find startups that just raised money using SEC Form D filings
When a U.S. company raises private capital under Regulation D, it files Form D with the SEC, usually within 15 days of the first sale. That makes Form D one of the earliest public signals of a funding round.
Steps
- Open SEC Form D Funding Feed on Apify.
- Pick a lookback window and filing type (new filings or amendments).
- Filter by state, industry group, minimum amount sold and exemption.
- Exclude pooled investment funds if you only want operating companies.
- Schedule it daily; incremental runs only charge for new filings.
Example input
{
"lookbackDays": 14,
"minAmountSold": 10000000,
"filingType": "new",
"excludePooledFunds": true,
"maxFilings": 15
}
Paste this into the Actor's JSON input on Apify, or pass it to the API with the apify-client library.
Tips
- Related persons (executives and promoters) are listed in the filing, which helps you find the right contact.
- Amount sold can be lower than the total offering; watch both.
- Pair with Company Contact Enrichment when the filing has a website.
Limits
Not every raise files Form D, and some file late. Data is from official SEC EDGAR filings and is provided as-is.
