How to find ZIP codes hit by hail and wind for roofing leads (NOAA, NWS, FEMA)
After a storm, roofing and restoration teams need to know where damage is likely. Official government sources already record hail size, wind speed and disaster declarations. This guide turns them into a ranked ZIP list.
Steps
- Open Hail & Storm Leads on Apify.
- Choose states and event types (hail, wind, tornado, hurricane).
- Set thresholds, for example hail of 1 inch or more, or wind of 58 mph or more.
- Set a lookback window, such as 7 days, and run it.
- Schedule it with only-new-since-last-run so you see fresh storm ZIPs each morning.
Example input
{
"states": [
"TX"
],
"eventTypes": [
"hail",
"wind"
],
"minHailInches": "1",
"lookbackDays": 7,
"maxRows": 300
}
Paste this into the Actor's JSON input on Apify, or pass it to the API with the apify-client library.
Tips
- Check local rules on door-to-door canvassing and solicitation before going out.
- Permit surge flags (in covered cities) show where repairs are already starting.
- Larger hail sizes usually mean more roof damage.
Limits
ZIP-level only; no homeowner personal data. Preliminary storm reports can be revised by NOAA.
